Industrial Ethernet.

The International Society of Automation (ISA) has released the third edition of Industrial Ethernet: How to Plan, Install, and Maintain TCP/IP Ethernet Networks by John Rinaldi and Perry Marshall.

Rinaldi, an industrial networking expert and owner and CEO of a company that supplies networking technology throughout the world, says an updated edition of the popular book was needed in light of the growing and increasingly complex number of networking technologies, standards and requirements.

“There have been a vast number of changes since the previous revision. Industrial automation is changing faster than ever. There are new networking technologies, new hardware platforms, new software standards, and new organizations,” Rinaldi explains. “Not only do users have more technology options and more available products to choose from, they now have vastly new and difficult-to-achieve requirements from their management, their sales teams, and their customers.”

The book addresses these changes by covering the latest advances and issues in Ethernet Ring Protection Switching, daisy-chaining Ethernet devices, synchronizing devices over Ethernet, Ethernet security and perhaps the hottest topic in automation—implementing the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT).

The book also serves as an excellent reference tool on networking in industrial environments. Best-practice recommendations for installation, maintenance, security, and troubleshooting are clearly outlined.
